Kia’s newest and most talked about SUV offering pricing is finally here and it starts just over $31 grand. Kia hasn’t had a full size 7 seater SUV offering since the ill fated Borrego that was released during the recession. This looks to cash in on that sweet sweet SUV/Crossover Kool-Aid that everyone is drinking. Here’s the price breakdown.

There are 4 trim levels for the Telluride: base LX, S, EX and top trim SX. Also keep in mind all trim levels share the same 3.8 291 horse V6 and 5,000 lb towing capacity. This is the only engine option sadly. AWD is a $2,000 option on every trim as well.

The base LX starts at the aforementioned $31,690. Being Kia, its standard features list is good:

8-passenger seating and SOFINO leatherette seat trim

Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA)

Smart Key with push-button start

Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™

These are just the standout features. Bravo for Kia for making Forward collision avoidance standard as well.

There are 5 exterior color choices for this trim which is surprising and weird since Kia’s own Stinger only has about 3:

Everlasting Silver

Snow White Pearl

Gravity Gray

Sangria

Ebony Black

Snow White, Sangria and Ebony Black are all $395 options. Interior color choices are limited to just Black leatherette at this trim level as well. I chose Black because that’s my favorite.

There aren’t any option packages at this trim or any options of note outside of accessories like interior lighting kits, cargo organizers etc. All in, a base Telluride LX will set you back $ 33,130, give or take depending on what accessories or colors you choose. Also add on 2 grand if you want awd.

The next trim level up is S. It starts at $33,390. It builds on the LX by adding sporty touches and better standard features:

7-passenger seating w/ 2nd-row captain’s chairs or 8-passenger seating

20" alloy wheels

Heated front seats

Power sunroof

This trim has the same interior and exterior colors save for two differences. At this trim you can get green color the Telluride debuted in called Dark Moss. It’s a no cost option. You also get the option of choosing grey leatherette seats as well, but they can only be chosen with the Black, Grays and Green.

Kinja'd!!!

There is an option package available for this tirim as well. For just $100, you can choose the 8 Passenger Seating Package. It turns the standard second row captains chairs on this trim into a bench along with adding a 60/40 split. I didn’t add this option. Without selecting any of the options, this trim will set you back $35,035 as optioned.

The next trim up is the $37,090 EX trim. It comes standard with :

8-passenger seating and leather seat trim

Highway Driving Assist (HDA)

UVO link with Navigation and 10.25-inch Touch-Screen

Smart Power Liftgate™

I saw a pattern with Kia going up the trims: their exterior and interior color choices are lackluster. This trim has the same exact colors interior and exterior wise, with the only difference being that the seats are real leather. The option package on this trim is a $795 Towing Package. It comes with Self Leveling rear suspension and a tow hitch. I couldn’t see if it raised the towing capacity however. I didn’t add this. As optioned, a EX trimmed Telluride is $38,530.

The top of the Telluride hill and the one that you’re probably going to want is the $41,490 SX trim. It comes standard with:

7-passenger seating w/ 2nd-row captain’s chairs

Dual sunroofs

LED projector beam headlights and 20" Black Sport alloy wheels

Surround View Monitor (SVM)

Kinja'd!!!

This trim is where the color choices are really different. You get an exterior color option made available called Black Copper. Its a $395 option. You also get 2 additional interior leather color choices as well. Espresso Brown and Butterscotch. I chose espresso with Black of course. Both of those are no cost as well. The SX also has the same towing package option as well. All in, a Telluride SX will set you back $42,930. Not as price as I thought it would be.

Honestly, I think it’s handsome and should be a standout option for buyers looking for something roomy and stylish, unlike competitors such as the Pilot, Ascent (who might have a recall coming. Spoke with a owner last night that had his front control arms snap on him while he was driving) and Atlas. It comes pretty loaded with standard features at every trim, but I do wish there was more variety in options as it seems sparse customization wise. What do you guys think of it?

Man, small sample size and all that, but I was really not expecting two Telluride posts in less than 24 hours.

People actually like it I guess.

I don’t think it looks bad, aside from the little bit of chrome crawling up the b-pillar.

Much bigger bargain than I thought it would be, honestly. My wife likes these from what she’s seen on the commercials and is already wants to put this on the list when her Sorento will need replaced, though that shouldn’t be for a very long time. On the used market, these will be tremendous value - a two-year-old E X for about $25 k or SX for $30k seems likel y.

Just like the very nice Sedona minivan, they’ll show everyone the top trim with all the best materials, but 90% of the models actually sold will be base/fleet models that will continue to hamper Kia’s efforts to be taken more seriously in the upmarket end of the spectrum.

It doesn’t help that every Telluride will have neon shoe polish on the windshield and 20 balloons tied to it. Kia dealers have to keep it real.

Yea it would definitely be a nice thing to move up into from a Sorrento. They should be a huge value used like you mentioned. I kinda foresee these holding their value down the line somewhat.

I mean its right on par with the mid size 7 seaters price wise. Though this looks bigger. Could be the stance or roofline making it look bigger than it is . Even so I think this could be a hit for Kia. This is a luxury looking SUV for entry level price. Now I d on’t know their reliability of the 3.8L or AWD but its checked all the right boxes. Though it would be perfect with a V8.

Even so I am very surprised how much I like the Telluride. IMO its the best looking of the mall crawlers with 7 seats. Slightly a head of the 9 year old Durango and Grand Cherokee (jeep is 5,  same same but different). Time will tell how good it actually is but like the Stinger, a good step for Kia

I hate that most non luxury automakers do that. They release and show the best models. Not the ones that will be the bulk of the sales. But you’re about them sitting with balloons tied to them. I suspect they’ll have big discounts to the point of making this a better buy over the Sorrento.

I think it’s boxyness makes it appear more big than it really is. It should be a hit, but the real question will be whether to get this over the Palisade.

Yep, it’s like “I don’t care how good you CAN make your cars, it’s all about how good you make and sell your cars.”

People’s observations and anecdotes with in their own peer groups go a lot farther than reviews and advertising.

Well thats unfortunate, I had forgotten the Palisade was the sister car and googled it and this was the first thing that came up . Even so everyone knows these arent real off roaders, unlike in the Kia commercials

And to be honest, I like the Telluride nose way better. I get what Hyundai was trying to do but just not a bold as the Kia.

To me the Palaside looks like a Santa Fe XL at first glance.

From a practicality standpoint, I appreciate that it has leatherette/leather  on all trims. Much easier to clean than cloth and as a family SUV/crossover, that seems like a good choice to me. Definitely one to consider for a future family of mine, knowing Kia’s fairly good reliability but poor resale value

My quick take, based on nothing but glancing at the text and the pics:

Pricing seems incredibly reasonable.

The wheels are so tiny!
